On Hekate:

The most important classical mythological source is Hesiod’s Theogony (4O9—452). Other useful references are found in the Homeric Hymn to Demeter and in Euripides’ Medea, Ion, and The Phoenician Women. The rites of Hekate are described by Apollonius of Rhodes.

A thorough modern scholarly discussion is in Lewis R. Farnell’s The Cults of the Greek States, vol. 2 (Caratzas Brothers Publishing, New York 1977).

Stephen Ronan has edited a very useful selection of texts, The Goddess Hekate, (Chthonios Books, 1992), which includes the relevant chapters from Farnell. As far as I know it is currently out of print.

Cassell's Encyclopedia of Queer Myth, Symbol and Spirit  by Randy P. Conner, David Hatfield Sparks and Mariya Sparks has interesting information on the Priesthood of Hekate.

Hekate in Ancient Greek Religion by Robert Von Rudloff (Horned Owl Publishing, 1999) provides an excellent reassessment and is a key source of information for this site.

Maiden, Mother, Crone by D.J. Conway (Llewellyn, 1996) provides an intelligent assessment of these aspects of the Goddess.

Mysteries of the Dark Moon by Demetra George has some historical inaccuracies, but many useful ideas.

The Oxford Classical Dictionary edited by Simon Hornblower and Anthony Spawforth has an extensive entry on Hekate with many additional references.

The Triple Goddess by Adam McLean (Phanes Press 1989) provides an analysis of Hekate within a broader context.

The Witches Goddess by Janet and Stuart Farrar provides a basic introduction.

The Woman's Dictionary of Symbols and Sacred Objects by Barbara G. Walker has many obscure references to Hekate I haven't seen elsewhere.

The Encyclopedia of Ancient Deities, edited by Charles Russell Coulter and Patricia
Turner (New York: Oxford University Press, 2001) has a useful entry.

Mythology, edited by C. Scott Littleton, (Duncan Baird Publishers, London 2002), has some useful background on ancient Greek religion.

Mythology by Edith Hamilton. Back Bay Books,1998, is useful for general information, but not recommended as a source on Hekate. I've quoted from it on the Sacred to Hekate page.

Magic and Witchcraft:

The Spiral Dance by Starhawk.
A classic. In my opinion this is the best introduction to the craft. All her work is excellent. Her weave of politics & spirituality is inspirational.

My own article, Sacred Ecology, is published in Paganism Today, edited by Graham Harvey & Charlotte Hardman. Published by Thorsons, 1995. ISBN: 0 7225 3233 4.
The book is an excellent introduction to Paganism in the UK.

Visual Magic by Jan Fries (Mandrake Press 1992).
Not for armchair magicians. Practical introduction to 'Freelance Shamanism'.

Wicca by Vivienne Crowley.
Comprehensive introduction to Wicca. Intelligent & well written.

The Endorphin Effect by William Bloom describes powerful techniques for using endorphins to manage your consciousness. The benefits to health and spiritual well-being can be profound. Published by Piatkus, 2001.
